Contact lenses should provide clear vision without leaving your eyes irritated, dry, or uncomfortable by the end of the day. If lenses that once worked well have started burning, shifting, becoming blurry, or feeling increasingly noticeable, it may be time to have the fit checked again.
At Victory Vision Care in Brooklyn, we provide contact lens evaluations to help determine whether your prescription, lens fit, tear film, or eye health may be contributing to discomfort.
Your eyes are not completely static. Prescription needs, tear quality, allergies, medications, screen habits, and the surface of the eye can change over time. A lens that fit comfortably last year may not feel the same today.
Dry eye is another common factor. Contact lenses interact directly with the tear film, so an unstable or rapidly evaporating tear layer can make lenses feel gritty, tight, or uncomfortable as the day progresses.
If your Brooklyn workday includes long periods at a computer, reduced blinking during screen use may make these symptoms more noticeable.
Occasional awareness of your lenses does not always mean something is wrong, but recurring symptoms deserve attention. Schedule a contact lens evaluation if you notice:
Burning, stinging, or persistent dryness
Lenses that shift or feel unstable when you blink
Blurry or fluctuating vision during the day
Redness after several hours of lens wear
One lens consistently feeling different from the other
Comfort that has noticeably declined despite following your usual routine
These symptoms can have several causes, so simply switching brands without an eye exam may not solve the underlying problem.
During a follow-up, we evaluate more than whether you can read the eye chart clearly. We look at how the lenses position themselves on your eyes, how they move with blinking, and whether the cornea and surrounding tissues appear healthy.
We also review when discomfort starts. A lens that feels fine for two hours but becomes blurry or dry later in the day provides different information than one that feels uncomfortable immediately after insertion.
Your prescription may also need to be updated if vision has changed since your last contact lens exam.
Sometimes the current lens material, design, or replacement schedule is no longer the best match for your eyes.
Depending on your prescription and examination findings, another soft lens design may provide better comfort or visual stability. Patients with astigmatism, multifocal needs, dry eye, or other visual concerns may require a more individualized option.
At Victory Vision Care, our goal is not simply to increase wearing time. Contact lenses need to support comfortable vision while maintaining the health of the eye surface.
Contact lens discomfort should never become something you simply tolerate. Remove your lenses if you develop significant pain, marked redness, discharge, strong light sensitivity, or a sudden decrease in vision.
Do not sleep in daytime lenses unless they have specifically been prescribed for overnight wear. Contacts should also be removed before swimming or showering because water exposure can increase the risk of serious eye infection.
If symptoms continue after the lenses are removed, seek prompt eye care rather than putting another pair in and hoping the problem improves.
Regular contact lens exams allow us to monitor vision, comfort, fit, and eye health as your needs change. Even if you have worn contacts successfully for years, a new problem is worth evaluating rather than assuming discomfort is unavoidable.
